Scenario Process
Scenario Process
The purpose of scenarios is to “look to the future in order to understand the weak signals in the present”, ideally a scenario exercise should blend plausibility with should blend plausibility with fantasy in order to produce scenarios that are internally consistent.
Scenarios, if performed correctly, should enable the participants to learn from the exercise, both from others involved and the process itself. Participants should also leave an exercise with either their own views reinforced—or with a whole new set of insights. The GRIP Scenario exercise holds these points at its heart. The GRIP process is the only one, that we are aware of, that blends (in real time) the important emissions aspects of energy futures (and associated CO2 emissions) 1) The numerical elements (how much energy and of what type is being consumed) with the socio-economic futures of economy size; demographical elements and general behaviour—into one exercise.
At the end of the GRIP scenario process we usually produce a brochure, an example of which can be found here we also encourage feedback— both positive and negative examples of which can be found here The exercise can be performed in groups or in a 1-2-1 setting. Often the latter option is utilised—pictures of the sessions can be viewed below.
The tool itself can be found here and instructions in the form of a video here and furthermore text based instructions here
